That depends on one letter, and it's the single most important thing to get right on this brand. The eR7 has a full fault-code table — codes in the 002 to 159 range covering thermocouples, triacs, relays and the PCB, plus three panel codes you can actually read out to us over the phone: FE (touch panel unresponsive), VE (controller firmware incompatible with the PCB) and CE (no response from the main controller). The R7 has no codes at all. None. It's thermostat-controlled, and its field service manual contains no fault-diagnostics section — we checked the whole document. R7 and eR7 are both electric, sold side by side, and differ by one letter. If a company reads you an "R7 code table," they are reading the eR7 manual and don't know it. The Classic heat-storage AGA also has no codes — nothing to display them on. Total Control and ERA do have codes, with a twist worth knowing: AGA deliberately doesn't publish what they mean.

You won't find it, and that's by design rather than an oversight on your part. AGA's own Total Control user guide says it plainly: in the unlikely event an error occurs, error codes may be displayed on your handset — for example nn 133 — and you should provide AGA Service with this information so it can assist the engineer in diagnosing the fault. That's the whole entry. The meanings are withheld from owners and live in the service documentation. The ERA guide does the same thing with its own example. So when you search your code and find nothing, the internet isn't failing you — the manufacturer decided the number is for the technician, not for you. Read it to us on the phone and it does its job.

No — and this is worth correcting because it's repeated everywhere, including on pages that ought to know better. The Coalbrookdale foundry closed in November 2017; AGA said it was no longer economically viable. Since then the castings come from third-party foundries in the UK and across Europe, none of them part of the AGA group. What still happens in Shropshire is the part that arguably matters more: assembly and enamelling at Ketley, in Telford, where AGA has been for a century. Leamington Spa, which you'll also see quoted as "the factory," is the corporate head office, not a cooker plant. So the honest description of a modern AGA is: assembled and enamelled in Telford, from iron poured elsewhere.

Both exist, and they're different things — this trips up a lot of people. AGA-branded refrigeration and dishwashers genuinely exist in the US lineup: there's an AGA 36-inch Mercury French Door Refrigerator, an AGA 24-inch Mercury Dishwasher, and AGA publishes owner's guides for AGA Refrigeration and AGA Dishwashers. Separately, Marvel is its own brand — premium undercounter refrigeration, built in Greenville, Michigan since 1892, with its own entry in the Composition Brands portfolio. "AGA Marvel" was a historical corporate entity, not a current product badge. So an AGA fridge and a Marvel fridge are both real and are not the same product. Composition Brands — and AGA's own US site says so in its footer, which reads that AGA Ranges is a member of the Composition Brands luxury portfolio. The chain: Middleby completed its acquisition of AGA Rangemaster Group in September 2015. Then on 2 February 2026, 26North Partners bought 51% of Middleby's residential kitchen business in a deal valuing it at $885 million, and the group was renamed Composition Brands. One nuance most coverage skips: Middleby didn't fully exit — it kept a 49% non-controlling stake in what is structurally a joint venture, plus a seller's note. So "Middleby sold AGA" is a bit too clean. AGA now sits alongside Viking, Rangemaster, La Cornue, Lynx, U-Line and Marvel in that portfolio.

Through Middleby Residential — and this is a live oddity worth knowing. AGA's US customer-care page states that parts are distributed through Middleby Residential, on 1-800-241-9152 (option 1). The interesting part: that same page's footer already carries the Composition Brands rebrand, but the parts channel is still Middleby-branded. The corporate change landed; the parts plumbing hasn't been renamed. Also worth correcting a claim that circulates: AGA parts are not routed through Greenwood, Mississippi — Greenwood is Viking's plant, a sister brand, not AGA's parts address. No — independent, and we'll say so first. AGA publishes a dealer locator for sales and routes service requests through its own customer care (800-241-9152); we found no published authorized-servicer list for the US. If your cooker is in warranty, start with AGA's customer care — that's the honest route. Where an independent earns the work is out-of-warranty cookers, second-owner AGAs that came with a house, and the ones where nobody local will touch a two-tonne cast-iron heat-storage cooker. We'll be straight rather than sell you a story. A traditional heat-storage AGA is always on — that's the whole design; the cast iron is a thermal battery. In a cold British house that doubles as heating. In a hot kitchen it's a real consideration, and owners actively manage it: a UK owners' survey from 2019 found that 44% of AGA owners switch theirs off for the summer (that's a UK figure, second-hand via a retailer, and we're not going to pretend it's an LA number — nobody has published one). The modern answer is the controllable models: Dual Control, Total Control, R7 and eR7 exist precisely so ovens and hotplates can be turned off when you're not using them, which is why they're the ones we mostly see in Southern California. If someone tells you a confident statistic about AGAs overheating LA kitchens, ask where it came from.
