Appliance-side vs. Plumbing-side
Garbage disposal repair straddles two service categories in LA: appliance repair (motor, switch, reset, impeller, electrical) and plumbing (drain line, pipe connections, sewer backup). Our prices above are appliance-side only. Plumbing-side work is honestly out of our scope.
What our $89–$260 labor bands cover (appliance-side): jammed impeller + humming-not-spinning diagnostic + thermal overload reset + wall switch + GFCI circuit + motor replacement + worn seal (bottom / flange / dishwasher port) + impeller plate replacement + jam clearing + grinding chamber cleaning + descaling for LA hard-water mineral buildup.
What a plumber handles (out of our scope): drain line clogs downstream of the disposal + P-trap and drain pipe connections + sewer line backup + water supply lines + original drain rough-in work + complex sink-flange corrosion requiring drain reconfiguration.
When we arrive and diagnose a plumbing-side issue, we'll tell you plainly before charging anything beyond the $89 diagnostic — and in most cases, if the issue is entirely plumbing-scope (water backing up from multiple drains, no disposal symptom at all), we'll let you know on the phone before we dispatch. Plumbing rates in LA run $150–$350/hour for most drain work vs. our $89–$260 labor range — different service, different cost structure.
Scope boundary — quick reference
Call us (appliance): humming, jammed, won't start, reset keeps tripping, motor burned out, impeller broken, bottom-seal leak. Call a plumber (plumbing): water backing up from sinks that don't have a disposal, drain line fully clogged below disposal, sink drain slow on multiple fixtures.
