A generic igniter on a Viking range fits poorly and often fails within months. We source directly from authorized suppliers for every professional brand we service.
The most common oven call across SoCal: the oven heats but the temperature is off, food is undercooked or overcooked at the set temperature. That's almost always the temperature sensor. Gas Ranges & Rangetops
Most common in SoCal homes. Burner ignition issues are the most frequent calls, won't ignite, constant clicking, uneven flame. Gas oven section has its own igniter, temperature sensor, and sometimes a broil element.
Electric Ranges & Wall Ovens
Common in condos without gas service. Bake element and broil element failures are primary repairs. Temperature sensor and control board issues are also frequent. Wall ovens, single and double, serviced the same way.
Dual-Fuel Ranges
Gas burners over an electric oven, the preferred configuration for serious home cooks. Wolf, Thermador, and Viking all offer dual-fuel lines. Repairs on both sections require brand-specific OEM parts.

Convection adds a fan motor, an additional failure point. Steam ovens (Thermador, Miele, Wolf) add a water reservoir and steam injection system. More components, different diagnostic approach.

What our technicians fix most often
Oven Won't Heat
On an electric oven, a burned-out bake element is most common, you can often see the break or burn mark. On a gas oven, the igniter glows to open the gas valve; when it weakens, the valve never opens. We carry bake elements and igniters for the major brands.
Temperature Inaccurate
The temperature sensor (probe) measures cavity temperature and tells the control board when to cycle heat. When it drifts or fails, the oven consistently runs hot or cold. Most common explanation for food that never cooks correctly at the set temperature, and a quick fix once confirmed.
Bakes Unevenly / Hot Spots
A partially failed bake element heats unevenly, the section near the failure underheats. A drifting temperature sensor causes the oven to cycle incorrectly. We run a temperature test across multiple positions before concluding the cause.
Broiler Not Working
On an electric range, the broil element is separate from the bake element and fails independently. On a gas range, the broiler uses a separate igniter or pilot. Usually a straightforward element or igniter replacement.
Gas Burner Won't Ignite
First check whether the burner cap and ports are clean, clogged ports from food spills are the most common cause. If clean, the spark electrode, igniter module, or gas valve needs attention. A burner that clicks continuously without lighting almost always has a faulty spark electrode.
Self-Clean Door Locked Shut
The self-clean cycle locks the door for safety. When it ends but the door won't release, the door lock motor assembly has usually failed. Cutting power at the breaker and waiting for full cooldown sometimes releases it, if not, the lock motor needs replacement.
Oven Door Issues
A door that won't close fully, has a broken hinge, or a cracked door gasket loses heat constantly, the oven runs non-stop trying to maintain temperature and still underperforms. Door hinges and gaskets are serviceable parts we carry for residential and professional brands.
Control Board / Error Codes
Modern ranges display error codes pointing to specific failed components. Our technicians are current on diagnostic codes for Thermador, Wolf, Miele, Samsung, and LG. We verify the board is the actual issue before recommending it, control boards are expensive and other components can produce similar symptoms.

Temperature sensor failure on a Wolf dual-fuel. The probe had drifted well outside spec, reading about 75°F below actual temperature. The customer had been compensating by adjusting the set temperature, that's the wrong fix. The sensor is the issue.
"Front left burner won't light, clicks constantly"
Spark electrode failure on a Bertazzoni gas range in a Newport Beach coastal kitchen, the electrode had cracked at the ceramic insulator, causing intermittent sparking that couldn't produce a consistent arc. Coastal salt air accelerates ceramic insulator cracking on these units. Parts are brand-specific and not stocked by generic suppliers.
"Self-clean ran, oven won't unlock, two days now"
Door lock motor failure after a self-clean cycle. The cycle ran to completion but the door lock solenoid failed to retract, the oven cooled but the door stayed locked. Cutting power at the breaker didn't release it, confirming the lock motor had seized.
"Bottom of oven scorches, top is underdone"
Partial bake element failure, about a third of the element had burned through, leaving one section overheating and the rest underperforming. Some homeowners misdiagnose this as a sensor issue, but a visual inspection of the element makes it obvious.

Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Bertazzoni, Miele, we source directly from authorized distributors. Generic parts on professional ranges don't fit correctly, often fail faster, and can void remaining warranty. We don't substitute.

My gas burner won't ignite, is that a repair or can I fix it myself?
