01, About This Service

Southern California kitchens run the full range. So do we.

Oven and range calls across SoCal cover more ground than in most regions. You have the standard GE and KitchenAid ranges in mid-century homes and rental units from Burbank to Riverside. You have the 48-inch Wolf dual-fuel ranges and Thermador steam ovens in the renovated kitchens of Bel Air, Newport Coast, Pasadena estates, and Pacific Palisades. And increasingly, the boutique European brands, LaCanche, BlueStar, Bertazzoni, ILVE, in the kitchens of serious home cooks who wanted something you can't buy at Best Buy.

Our technicians work across all of them. The repair skills for a Wolf and a Whirlpool overlap more than you'd think, igniters, temperature sensors, bake elements, control boards, but the parts are brand-specific and need to be OEM. A generic igniter on a Viking range fits poorly and often fails within months. We source directly from authorized suppliers for every professional brand we service.

The most common oven call across SoCal: the oven heats but the temperature is off, food is undercooked or overcooked at the set temperature. That's almost always the temperature sensor. Second most common: gas burner that won't ignite. Third: the self-clean cycle locked the door and it won't release. We carry parts for all three on the van.

πŸ”₯ Gas Safety Note

If you smell gas near your range, turn off the burners, open windows, and leave the space before calling anyone. We handle gas appliance repairs on the appliance side, but a gas smell that persists after the burners are off warrants a call to SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 before scheduling a repair appointment.

02, Range & Oven Types We Service

Every configuration in SoCal kitchens

Gas, electric, dual-fuel, wall ovens, rangetops, the failure modes vary by type.

Gas Range

Gas Ranges & Rangetops

Most common in SoCal homes. Burner ignition issues are the most frequent calls, won't ignite, constant clicking, uneven flame. Gas oven section has its own igniter, temperature sensor, and sometimes a broil element.

Electric

Electric Ranges & Wall Ovens

Common in condos without gas service. Bake element and broil element failures are primary repairs. Temperature sensor and control board issues are also frequent. Wall ovens, single and double, serviced the same way.

Dual-Fuel

Dual-Fuel Ranges

Gas burners over an electric oven, the preferred configuration for serious home cooks. Wolf, Thermador, and Viking all offer dual-fuel lines. Repairs on both sections require brand-specific OEM parts.

Convection

Convection & Steam Ovens

Convection adds a fan motor, an additional failure point. Steam ovens (Thermador, Miele, Wolf) add a water reservoir and steam injection system. More components, different diagnostic approach.

03, Common Problems

What our technicians fix most often

Oven Won't Heat

On an electric oven, a burned-out bake element is most common, you can often see the break or burn mark. On a gas oven, the igniter glows to open the gas valve; when it weakens, the valve never opens. We carry bake elements and igniters for the major brands.

Temperature Inaccurate

The temperature sensor (probe) measures cavity temperature and tells the control board when to cycle heat. When it drifts or fails, the oven consistently runs hot or cold. Most common explanation for food that never cooks correctly at the set temperature, and a quick fix once confirmed.

Bakes Unevenly / Hot Spots

A partially failed bake element heats unevenly, the section near the failure underheats. A drifting temperature sensor causes the oven to cycle incorrectly. We run a temperature test across multiple positions before concluding the cause.

Broiler Not Working

On an electric range, the broil element is separate from the bake element and fails independently. On a gas range, the broiler uses a separate igniter or pilot. Usually a straightforward element or igniter replacement.

Gas Burner Won't Ignite

First check whether the burner cap and ports are clean, clogged ports from food spills are the most common cause. If clean, the spark electrode, igniter module, or gas valve needs attention. A burner that clicks continuously without lighting almost always has a faulty spark electrode.

Self-Clean Door Locked Shut

The self-clean cycle locks the door for safety. When it ends but the door won't release, the door lock motor assembly has usually failed. Cutting power at the breaker and waiting for full cooldown sometimes releases it, if not, the lock motor needs replacement.

Oven Door Issues

A door that won't close fully, has a broken hinge, or a cracked door gasket loses heat constantly, the oven runs non-stop trying to maintain temperature and still underperforms. Door hinges and gaskets are serviceable parts we carry for residential and professional brands.

Control Board / Error Codes

Modern ranges display error codes pointing to specific failed components. Our technicians are current on diagnostic codes for Thermador, Wolf, Miele, Samsung, and LG. We verify the board is the actual issue before recommending it, control boards are expensive and other components can produce similar symptoms.

04, Professional & Boutique Ranges

The ranges that define SoCal's serious kitchens

Southern California has one of the highest concentrations of professional-grade home ranges in the country. Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Hancock Park, Newport Coast, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena estates, Calabasas, and Thousand Oaks hill homes, kitchens with Wolf and Thermador are standard in renovated homes above a certain price point.

🍳 Pro-Grade Range Repair

Why professional ranges need brand-specific repair

A Wolf dual-fuel range and a Whirlpool electric range share the same physics, elements, sensors, igniters, control boards, but almost nothing else is interchangeable. A Wolf igniter is a specific assembly that fits a specific burner configuration; a generic part doesn't seat correctly and often fails in months. The same is true for Thermador's Star Burner system, Viking's sealed burner design, and LaCanche's French range architecture.

We source OEM parts directly from authorized distributors for every professional brand we service. For boutique European brands, ILVE, LaCanche, Fulgor Milano, part lead times can run longer, and we'll tell you that upfront.

06, Recent Repairs

What our technicians actually fixed recently

Bel Air (LA County) Β· Wolf 48" Dual-Fuel

"Oven runs 75 degrees cold, bread never comes out right"

Temperature sensor failure on a Wolf dual-fuel. The probe had drifted well outside spec, reading about 75Β°F below actual temperature. The customer had been compensating by adjusting the set temperature, that's the wrong fix. The sensor is the issue.

Replaced temperature probe with OEM Wolf part. Calibrated with an independent thermometer across three test cycles. Oven confirmed accurate to within 5Β°F at 350Β°, 400Β°, and 450Β°. Customer had been compensating for about eight months, the repair took 45 minutes.
Newport Beach (Orange County) Β· Bertazzoni 36" Gas Range

"Front left burner won't light, clicks constantly"

Spark electrode failure on a Bertazzoni gas range in a Newport Beach coastal kitchen, the electrode had cracked at the ceramic insulator, causing intermittent sparking that couldn't produce a consistent arc. Coastal salt air accelerates ceramic insulator cracking on these units. Parts are brand-specific and not stocked by generic suppliers.

Sourced and replaced OEM Bertazzoni spark electrode assembly. Verified ignition on all six burners before leaving. Also cleaned burner caps and ports, one other burner had partial port blockage that would have caused a similar issue within a few months.
Beverly Hills (LA County) Β· Thermador Pro Grand Steam

"Self-clean ran, oven won't unlock, two days now"

Door lock motor failure after a self-clean cycle. The cycle ran to completion but the door lock solenoid failed to retract, the oven cooled but the door stayed locked. Cutting power at the breaker didn't release it, confirming the lock motor had seized.

Replaced door lock motor assembly with OEM Thermador part. Tested door release after installation, ran a short self-clean cycle to verify the lock-unlock sequence functioned correctly. Two-hour repair, customer had been without the oven for two days.
Thousand Oaks (Ventura County) Β· KitchenAid Wall Oven KOSE500ESS

"Bottom of oven scorches, top is underdone"

Partial bake element failure, about a third of the element had burned through, leaving one section overheating and the rest underperforming. Some homeowners misdiagnose this as a sensor issue, but a visual inspection of the element makes it obvious.

Replaced bake element with OEM KitchenAid part. Tested at 375Β°F, even temperature distribution confirmed across the full oven cavity. 30-minute repair once part was identified.

08, Why Same Day Appliance Repair

What matters on an oven call

We test before we replace

Temperature inaccuracy could be the sensor, the control board, or the element. A control board replacement on a Wolf range costs significantly more than a sensor. We test systematically, identify the actual failed component, and quote accordingly.

OEM parts for professional brands

Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Bertazzoni, Miele, we source directly from authorized distributors. Generic parts on professional ranges don't fit correctly, often fail faster, and can void remaining warranty. We don't substitute.

Honest about parts lead times

For boutique European brands, lead times can run 3–10 days. We tell you that before scheduling, not after you've waited. For Wolf, Thermador, and Viking, most parts are available same or next day.

Gas leak check before we leave

Every gas range repair includes a leak check on all connections we've touched. If we find a pre-existing leak, we tell you before leaving. We use approved detection solution, not guesswork.

09, Frequently Asked Questions

Oven & range repair, what people ask us

How much does oven or range repair cost?

Our diagnostic fee is $89, applied toward the repair once you approve the work. Most residential oven and range repairs run between $150 and $350. A bake element or igniter replacement is toward the lower end. On professional-grade ranges like Wolf, Thermador, or Viking, parts costs are higher, we give you a full written estimate before any work begins.

Which areas of Southern California do you cover?

All five counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino, and Riverside. We dispatch from 8 service territories so the technician on your call is coming from the closest one. Same-day is our standard.

My oven heats but the temperature is way off, what's wrong?

The oven temperature sensor (probe) is almost always the culprit, when it fails or drifts, the oven under- or over-shoots consistently. We test the sensor first since it's the most common cause and a straightforward replacement.

My gas burner won't ignite, is that a repair or can I fix it myself?

First check whether the burner cap and ports are clean, clogged ports from food spills are the most common reason a burner won't light. If clean and still won't ignite, the spark electrode, igniter module, or gas valve could be the issue. We carry these for the major brands.

My oven won't come out of self-clean mode and the door is locked, what do I do?

The door lock motor assembly has usually failed. Try cutting power at the breaker and waiting for a full cooldown, that sometimes releases it. If not, the door lock motor needs replacement. We carry these for the brands we see most across SoCal.

Do you repair Wolf, Thermador, and Viking ranges?

Yes. Wolf, Thermador, and Viking are three of the brands our technicians work on most frequently across SoCal. We source OEM parts directly from authorized suppliers for all three. LaCanche, BlueStar, Bertazzoni, ILVE, and Miele are also within our scope.

My oven bakes unevenly, is it the element or the sensor?

It could be either. A partially failed bake element heats unevenly across its length. A drifting temperature sensor causes the oven to cycle incorrectly throughout. We run a temperature test across multiple positions before concluding the cause.

When does it make sense to repair vs replace an oven or range?

Rule of thumb: under 10 years old and the repair is under $400, fix it. Over 12 years old AND the repair is over $500, consider replacing, but pro-grade brands flip the math. Wolf, Thermador, Viking, La Cornue, Lacanche, BlueStar are almost always worth repairing through year 20+, replacement runs $8,000–$25,000+ and parts continue to be supported. We tell you straight which side of that line your unit falls on.

What does the 90-day warranty cover on oven repairs?

Every oven and range repair we complete carries a 90-day warranty on both parts and labor. If the same issue returns within that window, we come back at no charge. That's in writing before we leave.
