BBQ Grill Repair
Southern California
01, About This Service
Southern California grills year-round. That means grills break down year-round, and we're out here constantly.
Most US cities grill seasonally, maybe five months a year. In Southern California, LA, Orange County, Ventura, the Inland Empire, the grill runs in January. It runs in March. It runs on a Tuesday evening in November because the weather is 68 degrees and there's no reason not to. That year-round use pattern means SoCal grills accumulate grease, wear, and corrosion at three to four times the rate of a grill in Chicago or Boston. A gas valve that would last eight years in Minnesota might fail in three here.
See our complete Outdoor Grill & BBQ Repair page β, premium built-in catalog (Lynx, Wolf, Viking, Alfresco, Twin Eagles, TEC infrared, Solaire), Beverly Hills / Malibu / Bel Air estate kitchens, coastal salt-air maintenance.
We see a full range of BBQ grill repairs across SoCal, from the $350 Weber kettle on a Silver Lake apartment patio or a Long Beach condo balcony to the $12,000 Lynx built-in centerpiece of a Malibu, Newport Coast, or Westlake Village outdoor kitchen with its own dedicated gas line, refrigerator, and warming drawer. The diagnosis process is the same; the parts and complexity differ. Gas-certified technicians on every gas grill call. Weber parts on the van. Luxury brand parts sourced same-day for Alfresco, Fire Magic, Twin Eagles, and Capital. BHGS Licensed #A49573.
Turn off the grill and the gas supply valve. Call your gas utility, SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 across most of LA, OC, Ventura, and parts of SB; Southwest Gas at 1-877-860-6020 for Riverside, Anaheim, Long Beach, and parts of SB. They verify the source and confirm the area is safe at no charge. Then call us at for the repair. Gas utility first, appliance repair second.
02, Two Very Different Repairs
A $400 Weber and a $10,000 Lynx both need repair. The approach is completely different.
Knowing which type you have before you call helps us bring the right parts and set realistic expectations on cost and timeline.
Outdoor kitchen grills, Lynx, Alfresco, Fire Magic, Wolf, Twin Eagles
Permanent installation with dedicated gas line, often infrared burners, rotisserie systems, and integrated lighting. Complex ignition electronics. Parts are expensive and may require ordering. Common in Malibu, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades, Newport Coast, Newport Beach, Westlake Village, and Temecula wine-country outdoor kitchens.
Repair investment makes sense, a $400 repair on a $10,000 grill that runs perfectly for another 10 years is straightforward math.
- Infrared burner replacement
- Gas manifold and valve assembly
- Electronic ignition module
- Rotisserie motor and spit
- Dedicated gas line inspection
- Full outdoor kitchen service
Weber, Napoleon, Char-Broil, Traeger, Nexgrill
Freestanding or portable grills on a cart or patio. Self-contained propane or natural gas. Standard ignition systems. Parts are widely available and usually in stock on our service vehicles. Fast repairs in most cases.
We're honest about repair vs. replace: a grill that's 10+ years old with a seized burner manifold may cost more to repair than to replace with a new unit. We'll tell you directly.
- Igniter and spark module
- Burner replacement
- Gas valve and regulator
- Heat plates and grates
- Control knobs and electronics
- Pellet auger and controller (Traeger)
03, Common Failures
What our technicians diagnose most often in SoCal BBQ grills
Burner Won't Ignite
Three causes: failed igniter/spark module (no click sound), clogged burner ports from grease and carbon buildup (spark present but no sustained flame), or failed gas valve. In SoCal's year-round grilling environment, clogged burner ports from accumulated grease are the most common single cause. Try cleaning the ports with a wire brush before calling, it solves the problem about 30% of the time without any parts replacement.
Uneven Heat / Hot and Cold Spots
Blocked or partially clogged burner ports create uneven flame distribution, one section runs hot, another barely heats. Failed or warped heat plates (the stainless or ceramic shields above the burners) that are supposed to distribute heat evenly can also cause this. On infrared grills, a cracked ceramic tile creates a dead zone that's disproportionately noticeable.
Weak Flame / Low Heat Output
Failed pressure regulator, the device between the propane tank and the grill that maintains consistent gas pressure. A regulator in "bypass mode" (a safety state triggered by a detected pressure anomaly) restricts gas flow to a trickle. Disconnect the tank, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect, sometimes this resets the regulator. If the problem persists, the regulator needs replacement.
Excessive Flare-Ups
Grease accumulation in the drip tray, on the heat plates, or inside the burner box. Flare-ups are a fire risk beyond being a cooking problem, grease fire inside a grill cabinet can damage gas lines and ignition wiring. We clean grease accumulation as part of every grill service visit and check that drip trays are properly positioned and undamaged.
Rust and Corrosion
SoCal's marine layer, particularly in coastal neighborhoods from Santa Monica to Malibu in LA, Newport Beach to Laguna in OC, and the Ventura coastal corridor, deposits salt moisture on outdoor equipment year-round. Stainless steel grills resist this better than painted steel, but coastal salt air attacks even high-grade stainless at weld points and cast iron grates. Surface rust on grates is a cleaning and maintenance issue; structural rust on the burner box or frame is a replacement indicator.
Pellet Grill Not Heating (Traeger / Pit Boss)
Pellet grills have a different failure mode than gas grills: the auger motor that feeds pellets to the fire pot, the igniter rod that lights the pellets, and the temperature controller that manages the whole system. The most common failure is a failed igniter rod, the pellets load correctly but the rod doesn't generate enough heat to light them. Wet pellets from moisture exposure are also a common SoCal-specific issue (coastal humidity + IE summer monsoonal moisture cycles).
04, Southern California Outdoor Kitchen Culture
SoCal's outdoor living culture, and why grills here need more maintenance than anywhere else in the US
300+ grilling days per year means 3-4x the wear. The maintenance math is different here.
Southern California has the highest concentration of built-in outdoor kitchens per capita in the US. The combination of mild weather, large properties in the hills, canyons, and coastal corridors, and a food and entertaining culture that treats the backyard as a legitimate extension of the kitchen has created an outdoor appliance market unlike any other US region. A Malibu cliff-side estate, a Newport Coast bluff home, a Westlake Village hillside property, or a Temecula wine-country estate with an Alfresco grill, outdoor refrigerator, warming drawer, and pizza oven is a normal service call for us.

06, Recent Repairs
What our technicians actually fixed recently
"Main burners won't ignite, left side completely dead since last week"
Failed electronic ignition module on the left burner bank of a Lynx 42-inch built-in in a Malibu outdoor kitchen. The module controlled three of six burners. When it failed, those burners had no spark signal, the gas was flowing correctly but nothing to light it. The homeowner had been using a long lighter to manually ignite those burners, which works but creates a dangerous momentary gas accumulation before ignition.
"Grill has been burning hot on the right and barely warm on the left for months"
Two separate issues on an Alfresco ALXE built-in at a Newport Coast bluff home: a clogged right-side burner running at too-high output because the ports were partially blocked by grease carbon (concentrated heat in a smaller area), and a failing gas valve on the left side restricting flow to approximately 40% of spec. The combination created a pronounced cooking gradient, steak seared perfectly on the right, barely cooked on the left, that the homeowner had been working around for the entire summer. Coastal salt air had also accelerated burner-port corrosion.
"Grill won't get above 250Β°F, even on full blast"
Regulator in bypass mode on a Weber Spirit E-310. The propane regulator had detected a rapid pressure change (from a tank being opened too quickly) and entered its safety bypass state, restricting gas flow to prevent a potential runaway pressure event. The grill appeared to be functioning, igniter working, flame present, but couldn't reach cooking temperature. The tenant had been using the grill in this degraded state for two weeks thinking the burners needed replacement.
"Traeger not heating up, fan runs but never gets above 100Β°F"
Failed igniter rod on a Traeger Pro 780 in a Westlake Village backyard. The auger was feeding pellets correctly and the fan was running (creating airflow for combustion), but the igniter rod, the element that heats to ~800Β°F to light the pellets, had failed. The pellets were accumulating in the fire pot unlit, and the fan was just pushing ambient air through. The owner had run the grill through three start attempts, dumping an increasing amount of unlit pellets into the fire pot each time.

My BBQ smells like gas, what do I do first?
Turn off the grill and gas supply immediately. Call your gas utility, SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 across most of LA, OC, Ventura, and parts of SB; Southwest Gas at 1-877-860-6020 for Riverside, Anaheim, Long Beach, and parts of SB. They verify and clear the area at no charge. Then call us at for the repair. Gas utility first, appliance repair second.
My burners won't ignite, what should I check first?
Remove the grill grates and heat plates and clean the burner ports with a wire brush. Grease-clogged ports are the most common cause of ignition failure in SoCal's year-round grilling environment. If the ports are clean and there's no spark, that's an igniter. If there's a spark but no flame, that's a gas valve or regulator issue.
Do you repair Lynx, Alfresco, and Fire Magic built-in BBQ grills?
Yes. These are the luxury built-in brands we service most across SoCal, Malibu, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades, Newport Coast, Newport Beach, Westlake Village, and Temecula wine-country estates. Parts may need to be ordered, we quote parts cost before ordering. Repair almost always makes financial sense on these grills given their replacement cost.
Can you service my outdoor kitchen refrigerator and side burner at the same time?
Yes. We service the full outdoor kitchen suite on the same visit, BBQ grill, outdoor refrigerator, outdoor wine cooler, side burners, and warming drawers. For Malibu, Bel Air, Newport Coast, Westlake Village, and Temecula properties with complete outdoor kitchens, scheduling everything on one visit is the efficient approach.
My Weber grill only gets to 250Β°F, is it broken?
Check the regulator first. Weber regulators enter a bypass safety mode when gas is released too quickly. Disconnect the tank, open all burner knobs for 30 seconds to bleed pressure, close them, and reconnect the tank slowly. This resets the regulator in about 40% of cases. If the problem persists, call us, gas valve or manifold issue.
