01, About this service
Zephyr is the design-forward range hood specialist — and the warranty is the practical reason most repairs make sense.
Zephyr Ventilation is San Francisco-headquartered with manufacturing split between Italy and Taiwan — different factories handling different product lines. The brand's positioning is different from mass-market builder ventilation (Broan) or single-product specialists (Panasonic microwaves): Zephyr leans hard into design as a kitchen-aesthetic statement. The Tamburo's drum geometry, Layers' sculptural island form, Hayek's architectural wall-mount — these aren't "a hood that vents," they're statement pieces that define the kitchen they're installed in. Repair work has to respect that.
One key fact most Zephyr owners learn only when something fails: Zephyr's 10-year non-consumable parts warranty is more generous than most competitors in the range hood category. If your hood is under 10 years old and the failure is a non-consumable component (control board, fan motor, electronics, switches), warranty likely covers parts cost — labor is yours after year 1. This is the practical reason most Zephyr repairs make sense even at the 7-9 year mark: you're often paying labor only. We help facilitate the warranty claim with Zephyr customer service before any out-of-pocket repair, and we tell you straight when warranty applies.
This page covers the full Zephyr lineup we service, the failure patterns we see by tier, the LA neighborhood concentration, and the honest repair-versus-replace economics that the warranty changes meaningfully versus other range hood brands.
02, Zephyr lineup we service
Three tiers across range hoods, plus Presrv coolers and HyperCore induction.
Power Series is the workhorse tier and most-installed across LA. Essentials covers mid-tier and entry-level. Designer Series carries the statement pieces. Presrv and HyperCore are separate categories.
Power Series — Performance Tier
AK2100 (30/36/42/48) · AK9434AS · Tempest · Anzio · Roma · Tamburo · Cyclone · Monsoon I + II
The workhorse Zephyr lineup — most LA installs land here. AK2100 wall-mount in 30-48 inch widths is the single most common Zephyr we see, particularly the 36-inch and 42-inch sizes in Brentwood and Studio City remodels. Tamburo island-mount with its signature drum geometry shows up in estate kitchens (Beverly Hills, Bel Air). Cyclone under-cabinet is the modern-loft favorite in WeHo and Mid-Wilshire condo conversions. Monsoon island-mount lands in beachfront open-concept kitchens (Pacific Palisades, Manhattan Beach). Common service across the line: push-button switch sticking at year 10-12, blower bearing wear (Tamburo specifically requires a custom service approach due to drum geometry), Cyclone duct-alignment issues from third-party renovation work.
Essentials Series — Mid-Tier and Entry-Level
Breeze under-cabinet · various wall-mount and insert variants
The mid-tier line we see most in Brentwood, Studio City, and Encino mid-tier remodels from the 2015-2022 wave. Less premium components than Power Series — earlier wear cycle on motor bearings, more frequent light socket failures on older units that still use halogen bulbs (newer Breeze production runs LED). Common service: light socket replacement and LED retrofit, filter cleaning recurrence (aluminum mesh, model-specific sizing — wrong size blocks airflow), control panel issues at year 8-10.
Designer Series — Statement Pieces
Layers · Hayek · Tornado · Inox premium variants
Premium installations, $2,500-$5,000 retail, the statement-piece tier. Concentrated in Beverly Hills and Bel Air estate kitchens, plus design-focused installations across the Westside. Custom shapes complicate repair access — labor often runs longer than equivalent service on a standard hood. Architectural mounting differs from standard ventilation mounting; replacement (when needed) requires expert install. Tornado's high-CFM commercial-grade airflow stresses motor bearings faster than residential-spec airflow on the same physical motor.
Presrv — Wine and Beverage Coolers
PRW24 · PRWB24 · PRB24F · PRKB24
Separate product category from range hoods — wine coolers (PRW24), dual-zone wine and beverage (PRWB24), beverage centers (PRB24F), kegerators (PRKB24). 5-year warranty on Presrv units purchased post-January 2023 (more generous than the 1-year industry standard). Service tree is conventional refrigeration: condenser cleaning, fan motor, controller. Different category from this page's primary scope; included here for completeness on Zephyr brand coverage.
HyperCore Induction — Newest Category
ZHCT130AC · ZHCT136AC
Zephyr's 2023+ entry into induction cooktops. Limited installed base across LA at this point — too new for substantial service history. Honest framing: if your unit is under five years and still in original warranty, factory-authorized service is the right call. We service these but they're outside our high-frequency repair patterns at this stage.
03, What goes wrong
Zephyr range hood failure patterns we see across LA.
- Push-button switch sticking (10+ year units, most common): Grease accumulation from cooking vapors over a decade of use causes membrane switches to stick after release. Symptoms: button stays pressed visually or functionally, fan stuck on, lights unresponsive. Fix is control panel disassembly, cleaning, and switch membrane replacement. We see this almost predictably on AK2100 series at the 10-12 year mark — many customers think they need a new hood when it's a $200 service call. Cost: $180-$280 typical.
- Thermal fuse blow after power surge: LA's PG&E events, fire-season Public Safety Power Shutoffs, and storm-related surges trigger this. Symptom: hood completely dead after a power event, no lights, no fan, no display response. Fix: thermal fuse replacement plus control board check. Cost: $130-$220.
- Control board failure: More serious than a thermal fuse — typically follows multiple power events or moisture infiltration. Cost: $280-$450 for board replacement plus labor. If your Zephyr is under 10 years, the parts warranty likely covers the control board; we coordinate the warranty claim with Zephyr customer service.
- Fan motor bearing wear: Following the standard fan-service rule — motor bearings can't be greased, they have to be replaced. Symptoms: increasing operating noise, eventual seizure. Cost: $250-$400 for the motor and bearing assembly. Tamburo island-mount has a specific service challenge — drum geometry requires a custom approach to access the motor housing.
- Light socket and bulb issues (older models): Pre-LED Zephyr models used halogen bulbs, and broken sockets from previous bulb-removal attempts are common. Newer Zephyr production is all LED with much fewer socket-related issues. Fix: $80-$130 for socket replacement; $40-$60 for an LED retrofit when an older halogen socket is being serviced anyway. We recommend the LED retrofit when feasible.
- Wi-Fi connectivity loss (Zephyr Connect-equipped models): Most reported "connectivity issues" trace to network or firmware problems, not hardware. First step is checking router 2.4 GHz broadcast (Zephyr Connect won't work on 5 GHz only) and router placement. Hardware module replacement is rare; usually $120-$180 if actually needed.
- Filter cleaning vs replacement: Routine maintenance, not a repair. Aluminum mesh filters are model-specific in size — wrong size blocks airflow and reduces hood effectiveness. We recommend annual filter cleaning, full replacement every 3-5 years on heavy-use units. Free filter assessment included with any service call.
04, Recent repairs
Zephyr jobs from across the territory.
Four representative service calls across the Zephyr lineup. Names and addresses omitted; technical scenarios are typical of what we see.
AK2100/42 wall-mount, Beverly Hills kitchen
Symptom: Customer reported all four fan-speed buttons sticking after release. 11 years on the install.
Diagnosis: Grease accumulation on the membrane switch substrate — predictable Zephyr failure pattern at this age. Two of the four switches needed replacement; the other two cleaned to functional with detergent and patience.
Repair: Control panel disassembly, full clean, OEM Zephyr switch replacement on the two failed buttons. Verified all four functioning normally.
Cost: $245 total. 75 minutes on-site. Customer thought she needed a new hood; left with the original install fully functional.
Tamburo island-mount, Bel Air estate
Symptom: 8-year-old Tamburo with increasing noise from the blower assembly. Customer reported the noise developed gradually over the prior six months.
Diagnosis: Motor bearing seized due to long-term heat exposure plus dust accumulation. Drum geometry on the Tamburo required a custom approach to access the motor housing — standard wall-mount or under-cabinet teardown wouldn't apply.
Repair: OEM Zephyr motor assembly replacement. Quiet operation restored and verified across all fan speeds.
Cost: $380 total. About 90 minutes on-site.
Cyclone under-cabinet, WeHo loft
Symptom: 5-year-old Cyclone went completely dead after a regional power surge during fall 2025 storm activity.
Diagnosis: Thermal fuse blown plus control board damage from the surge event — both visible on visual inspection plus voltage testing.
Repair: Customer's Zephyr 10-year parts warranty covered the control board (under 10 years from manufacture date). We coordinated the parts claim with Zephyr customer service. Customer paid labor only.
Cost: $180 total (labor only). Saved the customer approximately $400 versus full out-of-pocket repair.
Breeze under-cabinet, Studio City
Symptom: 7-year-old Breeze with a broken halogen bulb socket from a previous DIY bulb-removal attempt. Customer reported one of two interior lights non-functional.
Diagnosis: Socket physically broken at the threading. Halogen bulb era unit — newer Breeze production runs LED.
Repair: Socket replacement plus LED retrofit on both light positions (better light output, longer service life than halogen replacement). Customer was impressed enough with the LED upgrade that we updated the second working socket as well.
Cost: $130 total. 40 minutes on-site.
05, Where we see Zephyr in LA
Zephyr installs across Greater Los Angeles.
The Zephyr footprint across our LA service area concentrates by neighborhood and aesthetic preference. Beverly Hills and Bel Air estates lean heavily into Designer Series statement pieces (Layers, Hayek, Tornado) and Tamburo island-mounts in larger custom kitchens. Brentwood and Studio City mid-tier remodels (2015-2022 wave) are dominated by AK2100 wall-mount, particularly the 36-inch and 42-inch sizes in standard kitchen layouts. West Hollywood and Mid-Wilshire condo conversions favor Cyclone under-cabinet for the modern-loft aesthetic, with Breeze entry-level units appearing in lower-budget remodels.
Pacific Palisades, Manhattan Beach, and other open-concept beachfront kitchens lean toward Monsoon island-mount with its dramatic profile. Encino and the larger San Fernando Valley estate kitchens see AK2100/42 and AK2100/48 large-format wall-mounts. Downtown LA Arts District lofts and similar contemporary installations match well with the Tempest and Roma modern aesthetic.
Zephyr's design-forward positioning matches LA's modern kitchen aesthetic — we see meaningfully more Zephyr in homes built or remodeled 2015 onward than in older-era kitchens. The customer base skews design-conscious, willing to pay a premium for visual impact, and the warranty coordination work we do reflects that customer base's expectations: they bought design-statement equipment, and they expect repair work that matches that level of attention.

07, FAQ
Zephyr range hood repair, common questions.
Are Zephyr range hoods worth repairing?
Almost always yes for units under 10 years — Zephyr's 10-year non-consumable parts warranty is more generous than most competitors, which means parts cost is often covered and you're paying labor only on covered repairs. We help facilitate the warranty claim with Zephyr customer service when applicable. For Designer Series statement pieces (Layers, Hayek, Tornado) at $2,500-$5,000 retail, repair-vs-replace math heavily favors repair through 15+ years regardless of warranty status. The exception is older Essentials Series Breeze entry-level units 12+ years with multiple compounding failures — at that point, the $400-$800 retail replacement cost becomes comparable to comprehensive repair work.
How long does a Zephyr range hood last?
10-15 years typical for Power Series and Designer Series; 8-10 years for Essentials. The most predictable long-term failure pattern across the Zephyr lineup is push-button switches sticking from grease accumulation — happens almost predictably at the 10-12 year mark on AK2100 series and similar Power Series units. That's a $200 service call to clean and replace switches, not a replacement decision. Beyond switch service, fan motor bearings are the next typical end-of-life event (15+ years on well-maintained units). Annual filter cleaning extends service life noticeably.
Can you service Zephyr Connect Wi-Fi-equipped models?
Yes — and most reported 'connectivity issues' on Zephyr Connect-equipped models trace to network or firmware problems rather than hardware. The first diagnostic step is checking that the router is broadcasting on 2.4 GHz (Zephyr Connect won't work on 5 GHz only) and that the router placement gives reasonable signal to the kitchen. We diagnose connectivity issues without charge during any service call. Module hardware replacement is rare — usually $120-$180 if actually needed. The Wi-Fi side is rarely the actual problem when a Zephyr-equipped unit is misbehaving; it's almost always a separate hardware fault that the app surfaced.
Where are Zephyr range hoods made?
Zephyr Ventilation is headquartered in San Francisco. Manufacturing is split between Italy and Taiwan, with different factories handling different product lines — the design-forward Designer Series pieces typically come from Italian production, while higher-volume Power Series and Essentials Series production runs in Taiwan. This affects parts pipeline timing on less common service items: components from Italian production sometimes have longer lead times than Taiwan-sourced parts. We maintain LA inventory of the most common AK2100, Cyclone, and Tamburo service parts to avoid the import lead-time issue on routine repairs.
What's the difference between Zephyr Power Series, Essentials, and Designer?
Power Series is the performance tier — workhorses like AK2100 wall-mount (multiple sizes 30-48 inch), Tamburo island-mount drum design, Cyclone under-cabinet, Monsoon I and II wall and island variants, and the Tempest, Anzio, and Roma wall-mount lines. Most LA installs land here. Essentials Series is the mid-tier including Breeze under-cabinet and basic wall-mount variants — less premium components, lower entry cost, more common in mid-tier remodels. Designer Series is the statement-piece tier: Layers' sculptural island design, Hayek's architectural wall-mount, Tornado's high-CFM commercial-grade, Inox stainless premium variants. We service all three tiers; inventory is weighted toward Power Series since that's the most-installed across LA.
