On an electric GE stove, a single surface element that won't heat is usually the element itself, the element receptacle/terminal block it plugs into (which can burn or corrode), or the infinite switch that controls its power. If several elements or the whole cooktop are dead, the infinite switch or a wiring/terminal fault is more likely. On the oven side, a dead bake element ($180–$280) is the common no-heat part. A GE gas stove that keeps clicking or sparking when no burner is lit usually has moisture or a spillover problem at the igniter, or a fault in the spark circuit.
