Maytag Range Repair

Maytag's 10-year limited warranty on most post-2014 ranges covers the main components (motor, oven cavity, bake element) against manufacturing defect, not wear-and-tear or consumer-caused damage. Key service distinction: if you're still inside the warranty window, we route you to a Maytag-authorized warranty service provider first (you shouldn't pay out-of-pocket for a covered defect). Out-of-warranty or damage-not-covered items, we handle directly. When we diagnose, we tell you which category the failure falls in, we don't want to charge you for something Maytag owes you, and conversely, we don't want a customer waiting on warranty service for something Maytag doesn't actually cover.

Whirlpool Corporation acquired Maytag in 2006 and the two have increasingly shared chassis since. For Maytag MER/MGR/MDR ranges, many mechanical parts, bake elements, gas igniters, oven temperature sensors, door switches, door-lock motors, bake/broil wiring, cross-fit with Whirlpool + KitchenAid + Amana + Jenn-Air at the part-number level through the Benton Harbor MI parts network. Power Preheat is Maytag's accelerated preheat mode (oven reaches set temperature 20-30% faster than standard). It uses the existing heating elements aggressively, no dedicated hardware. When Power Preheat stops working while regular preheat still does, it's nearly always a firmware / control board issue, not a heating component. Try unplugging for 60 seconds to reset. Power Burner is the high-BTU burner on MGR gas ranges (15,000+ BTU on the left front typically). Common failure at 5-8 years: the high-BTU orifice clogs with cooking grease, drops below rated output, clean or replace $60–$140. If the igniter has also aged, replace together ($120–$220 igniter) since labor overlaps.

AquaLift (Maytag's low-temperature, low-odor self-clean on select MER ranges) uses water + 200°F steam + manual scrubbing between cycles. Unlike high-temperature pyrolytic self-clean on premium ranges, AquaLift is intended to handle light-to-moderate residue, heavy baked-on grease usually won't come off. Customer expectation mismatch is the #1 call category here: nothing is broken, the mode just has a narrower use case than most people expect. When the residue is genuinely heavy, we recommend manual cleaning with a non-abrasive oven cleaner. If AquaLift itself is malfunctioning (not heating the water, not completing the cycle), the bottom cavity heater and high-temperature thermistor are the usual suspects ($140–$240 each).

"Maytag Dependability" is long-standing brand positioning (going back decades), the idea that Maytag ranges use fewer electronic parts, simpler controls, and over-spec'd mechanical components to reduce failure rate. Modern MER/MGR ranges still lean this way at the mass-market tier, fewer touchscreen panels, more mechanical knobs on certain models, simpler convection setups. Practical service implication: Maytag MER/MGR repairs often tilt toward mechanical parts (heating elements, igniters, valves) rather than electronic boards, which is cheaper to service and the parts have longer stock cycles. Good news for repair economics.
