OE (Outlet Error) on an LG front-load washer means the drum couldn't drain in the expected window. LE (Locked motor / Error) indicates the Direct Drive motor circuit reported a fault, but it's the most-misdiagnosed code on LG washers and almost never needs a full motor replacement on the first call. The Direct Drive motor circuit has four distinct failure points: the hall sensor (rotor position sensor), the stator winding, the rotor magnet assembly, and the inverter board. The hall sensor accounts for the majority of LE codes we see, and on WM3900, WM4000, and WM4500 series it's a standalone replaceable component accessible without removing the drum. We always test the hall sensor first, 10-minute step that costs $145-$215 if it's the failure. Replacing the full rotor/stator assembly based on the LE code alone (without hall sensor test) is the most common unnecessary expense in LG washer repair. We don't do that. If hall sensor tests good and other components fail, then we quote stator/rotor work ($385-$580) honestly. Try removing some clothes, redistributing the rest, and restarting the cycle first, about a third of LE codes clear here at no cost when caused by a heavily unbalanced load.

UE (Unbalanced Error) is the simplest LG washer code and almost always resolves at no parts cost. The drum's load distribution sensor detected an unbalanced load that risks damaging the suspension or shock absorbers during high-speed spin. Pause the cycle, redistribute the wet clothes evenly around the drum (especially heavy items like jeans, towels, sheets, all-of-one-type loads are the most common UE trigger), and restart. About 80% of UE calls resolve at the redistribute step. Persistent UE on properly distributed loads points to shock absorber wear ($185-$285 pair, year 7-9 service item on WM-series), suspension spring fatigue, or, rarely, an early drum bearing issue. We confirm by running a small balanced test load on the diagnostic visit before quoting any parts.

Two architectures. WM-series are front-load washers, Direct Drive motor mounted directly to the drum shaft, no belt or pulley to wear out. WM3900, WM4000, WM4500, WM4900, and WashTower variants. The Direct Drive design is LG's reliability story: the motor outlasts traditional belt-and-transmission systems by years, and when service is needed it's typically the hall sensor (small replaceable component) rather than the motor itself.
