The float in the base only lifts when water gets down there, so E15 always points back to a leak somewhere above it. The usual sources, roughly in order of how often we find them:
Worn door gasket
The seal around the door hardens and cracks with age, letting a thin stream escape down the front and into the base during the cycle.
Failing water inlet valve
A valve that weeps even slightly sends water past its fitting and down into the tray over time.
Cracked spray arm or tub seal
A hairline crack or a tired seal releases water under pressure mid-cycle, which finds its way to the base.
Loose or split hose connection
The fill or drain hose connections can loosen or perish, dripping steadily into the pan until the float trips.
03 · The safe reset
Drain the base tray to clear the code.
- Cut the power. Turn the dishwasher off and unplug it, or switch off its breaker. Do not skip this.
- Pull it out. Slide the dishwasher out of the cabinet far enough to move it, with a towel down.
- Tip it back. Carefully tilt the machine backward about 45 degrees so the water trapped in the base drains out onto the towel. That is what drops the float.
- Dry and restore. Let the base dry, stand the unit back up, and restore power. E15 should clear and the dishwasher will run again.
Where to stop: draining the base and drying it is safe. Do not open the electrical panel, the pump, or the AquaStop valve assembly yourself. And remember the reset is temporary: if E15 returns, there is an active leak, and chasing it means removing panels and pressure-testing components. That's the tech's job, not a DIY one.
