On electronic models Maytag shows the F9E1 "long drain" code — the water didn't clear in time, which points at the pump or a clog, not the control. Maytag's warranty covers the motor and basket — not the pump.
Maytag markets a 10-year limited parts warranty, and it's real — but it's narrower than most people assume. On most models it covers only the drive motor and the wash basket (the stainless tub), and it's parts-only, not labor. The drain pump, the lid lock, the control board, and the hoses are not on that list.
Since a washer that won't drain is almost always the pump or a clog, that repair generally falls outside the warranty. 03 · Why a Maytag won't drain
The causes, in the order our techs check them.
Kinked or misrouted drain hose (check first)
A kink behind the machine, or a hose shoved too far down the standpipe, stops or siphons the drain. The easiest thing to rule out.
Clogged pump filter / coin trap (Maxima front-load)
Behind the bottom-front access panel on Maxima front-loaders. Coins and lint collect here — a common, safe DIY clear. Bravos top-loaders usually have no user filter.
Failed or blocked drain pump
If the hose and filter are clear, the pump can't move the water — worn out, or an item lodged in the impeller. A tech repair, and not warranty-covered.
Stuck lid lock / door latch
Maytag washers won't run the drain or spin unless the lid locks. A failed lock reads as a no-drain, no-spin fault. Tech diagnosis.
04 · What you can safely check
Try these before it's a pump call.
- Unplug the washer first, and be ready for standing water when you open the filter or hose.
- Check the drain hose for a kink, and make sure it's inserted only a few inches into the standpipe.
- Clear the pump filter (coin trap) behind the bottom-front panel on a Maxima — towels down, shallow pan ready.
- Run a drain/spin cycle to confirm — if the water clears and it spins, you're done.
Where to stop: the hose and pump filter are safe. Replacing the drain pump, freeing a lodged item, or a lid-lock/control fault are our techs' work — and the pump isn't warranty-covered, so expect a normal repair.

When the drain hose is straight, the coin trap is clean, and the Maytag still won't drain, the fault is the pump or the lid lock — both tech repairs, and neither is warranty-covered. What does F9E1 mean on a Maytag washer?
F9E1 is the 'long drain' code shared across the Whirlpool platform Maytag is built on: the washer ran the drain step but the water didn't clear in the expected time, so it flagged a drain fault and usually stopped before spinning. It's a plumbing/pump problem the control is reporting, not a control-board failure. My Maytag is a Bravos (or Maxima) — does that change the fix?
The drain parts are the same; only the layout differs. On a Maxima front-loader there's usually a drain pump filter (coin trap) behind a small bottom-front access panel — clear that first, it catches coins and lint. A Bravos top-loader typically doesn't have a user-accessible filter, so on those the clog is more often in the drain hose or the pump itself. Either way it's the same Whirlpool-platform pump underneath, so a technician diagnoses both the same way and carries the parts that fit.
Why won't my Maytag spin if it won't drain?
A washer drains before it spins — it won't spin on top of a full tub, because it can't balance and would sling water everywhere.
