02 · GE's reset steps
Three ways to reset a GE ice maker.
Free and cycle the feeler arm
The wire feeler (bail) arm shuts the maker off when it rides up on a full bin. If it's jammed up by ice, frozen, or knocked off, the maker stops. Gently free it, push it up to off, wait, then pull it down to on to force a harvest.
Power switch off, then on
Find the power switch on the side or bottom of the ice maker, turn it off for at least 15 seconds, then back on. This clears many transient faults.
Recessed reset button
Many GE ice makers have a recessed reset button — remove the ice bucket to reach it and hold 3 to 5 seconds until a light flashes or the arm moves. Give it several hours for the first batch afterward.
Note: "Quick Ice" is not a reset
Quick Ice is a temporary production-boost feature, not a reset — turning it on won't restart a stopped ice maker. Use the steps above instead.
03 · Why a GE fridge ice maker stops
The causes, in the order our techs find them.
Stuck or off feeler arm (most common on GE)
A jammed, frozen, or bumped-off feeler arm tells the maker the bin is full. Free it and set it down before assuming a part failed.
Clogged water filter
Good for about six months; past that, flow drops and ice tapers off then stops. Replacing an overdue filter is a top fix.
Closed supply, kinked line, or frozen fill tube
A partly-closed shutoff, a kinked line, or a frozen fill tube all cut off water to the mold. Confirm the supply and thaw the fill tube gently.
Water inlet valve or ice maker module
When water is available but the mold never fills, the inlet valve has failed; when the mechanism won't cycle, the module (motor, gears, thermostat behind the faceplate) is the fault. Both are tech diagnoses and replacements.
04 · What you can safely check
Run these before calling anyone.
- Free the feeler arm and make sure it's down in the on position.
- Change the water filter if it's older than six months.
- Check the supply — shutoff valve open, line not kinked — and thaw a frozen fill tube gently.
- Verify the freezer temperature is around 0°F.
- Reset it — cycle the arm, use the side power switch (off 15 seconds), or the recessed reset button. Give it several hours for the first batch.
Where to stop: freeing the arm, the filter, supply, fill-tube thaw, temperature, and a reset are safe homeowner work and fix most no-ice calls. Do not replace the water inlet valve or open the ice maker module — those are electrically live, plumbed-in tech jobs.

The feeler arm on my GE ice maker seems stuck — is that the problem?
