NeoChef is LG's branding for their Smart Inverter countertop + over-the-range microwave line, the Inverter refers to the continuous-power magnetron control (similar concept to Panasonic Inverter), and NeoChef bundles that with Smart Diagnosis, Anti-Bacterial Easy-Clean coating, and LG's hexagonal stable-ring turntable geometry. Service implication: NeoChef's Inverter board is a different architecture from traditional pulsed-magnetron control, so diagnostic protocol on a NeoChef unit starts with Inverter-board voltage checks before checking the magnetron itself. LG Studio (premium tier) also uses Smart Inverter with additional SmartThinQ WiFi pairing.

Over-the-range NeoChef, LMV / LMHM / MVEL series 1.5-2.0 cu ft with EasyClean or pyrolytic self-clean; most common in mass-market kitchen remodels. Countertop NeoChef, LMC series 0.9-2.0 cu ft; common in apartment and condo kitchens. LG Studio premium, LSRM series built-in + LSWS-series convection-microwave combi for premium kitchens. F1, over-temperature safety trigger; usually a venting issue (OTR unit grease-clogged filter) or thermistor drift. F3, keypad / membrane-switch fault; touch panel short-circuit or failed membrane. F9, high-voltage circuit fault (Inverter board or magnetron feedback). F10, thermistor fault; temperature sensor open or shorted. F11, humidity sensor fault on sensor-cook equipped units. We test each error code against live sensor readings during diagnostic before ordering replacement parts, F-codes can be false-triggered by loose connectors, and we check those first.

Common LG microwave issue post-firmware-update: the SmartThinQ app shows the unit as offline even though WiFi is connected, or pairing fails mid-setup. Standard recovery: (1) power-cycle the microwave at the breaker for 60 seconds; (2) in the SmartThinQ app, remove the device completely and re-add from scratch (don't try to reconnect an existing entry); (3) ensure your router is 2.4 GHz compatible, LG microwaves don't support 5 GHz-only networks; (4) if your router supports band separation, use a 2.4 GHz-only SSID for pairing. If pairing still fails after those steps, the WiFi module inside the unit ($180-$280) is the next check. We run the sequence during diagnostic before recommending the module swap.

The InstaView window (knock-to-view illumination) on LG Studio + premium units uses a bonded glass assembly with embedded LEDs and a tap sensor. The bonded-electronics construction means the window + knock-sensor + LED driver are a single service unit, you can't replace just the LED or just the sensor separately. If the knock-sensor fails or the LED driver dies, the whole InstaView door assembly is the replacement ($340-$520 part, $440-$680 total installed). The non-InstaView model variant is often mechanically identical minus the window assembly, on older LG Studio units we occasionally recommend swapping to a non-InstaView door if the InstaView value isn't worth the replacement cost.
