Fire ring, fire box, dome, base — all covered. We help customers file the claim when we see warranty-eligible damage on the diagnostic. Replacement ceramic ships from BGE at no cost, we install it on a follow-up visit at labor-only billing. If your BGE wasn't registered, the warranty path is closed and we'll quote a paid repair, which on a 2XL fire ring or dome can run $400-800 in parts plus labor. Year 4-7 is typical replacement. The felt gasket compresses over time from heat cycling and dome closure. When you start seeing smoke leaking around the dome edge during a cook, it's compressed past usefulness. Replacement is straightforward: remove the old felt strip, clean the seating surface, apply the new high-temp felt strip, let it cure for one heat cycle. We do this in 30-45 minutes plus parts. $200-360 typical. Many customers DIY the gasket replacement at year 5-7; it's a reasonable owner-side maintenance task.

Yes. The ceramic body is weatherproof and BGE is designed to live outdoors year-round. Rain exposure does not damage the ceramic. Two caveats: keep a vinyl cover on it to protect the metal hardware (hinge, dampers, draft door) from rust and to keep the gasket dry between cooks; and if you live near saltwater (Manhattan Beach, Marina del Rey, Malibu), inspect the metal hardware twice a year for accelerated corrosion and lubricate the hinge plus draft door bolts.

Dome thermometer drift is normal at year 4+ and increases with heat-cycle count. We test against a boiling-water reference (212°F at sea level) and replace if drift exceeds 15°F. Replacement runs $160-240 all-in including the dome thermometer ($40-90 part) plus diagnostic plus 15 minutes labor. Some BGE owners prefer to add a bimetal probe thermometer at the cabinet level for more accurate cabinet temps regardless of the dome thermometer reading; we can install that as well.
