Ice-O-Matic uses the ICE prefix on cube ice machines, GEMU on Pearl Ice nugget, EF on flake. Variants: A (air-cooled), W (water-cooled), R (remote-condensed). We identify by serial number first.
ICE Series Cube Ice Machines
ICE0250 (250 lb/day small modular), ICE0320 (320 lb/day undercounter or modular, the most popular Ice-O-Matic small machine), ICE0500/ICE0500HA (500 lb/day), ICE0606 (600 lb/day), ICE0806 (800 lb/day), ICE1006 (1,000 lb/day), ICE1407 (1,400 lb/day large). Common in budget restaurants, cafés, mid-tier hospitality.
Same horizontal evaporator plus spray pump architecture as Scotsman. Water sprayed up onto the evaporator from a sump below. The spray pump is an additional service item beyond what cell-and-curtain Hoshizaki or vertical-evaporator Manitowoc machines have.

Pearl Ice Nugget Series (GEMU090, GEMU450)
Ali Group's mid-tier nugget answer (parallel to sister Scotsman Brilliance). GEMU090 smaller, GEMU450 larger. Auger-driven inside an evaporator drum, compressed and extruded into nugget shape before discharge.
- Year 5 to 8: Auger gear reducer wear, slightly faster than Scotsman Brilliance.

EF Series Flake Ice
Auger-driven flake architecture similar to Hoshizaki F-Series. Less common in the LA market but serviceable. Auger motor and gear reducer at year 6 to 9 are the typical service items, same as flake on any brand.

Honest opinion on this tier: a 10+ year-old ICE Series with major compressor failure is usually a replace conversation. Value-tier service life is 8 to 12 years. New ICE0606 landed runs roughly $3,800 to $4,600 commercial wholesale. A $2,000 compressor swap on a unit with worn spray pump, faded AgION coating, and aged water inlet valve you'll be replacing within 18 months anyway is not the right call. We say so on the diagnostic.

How long do Ice-O-Matic units last?
Mid-tier value tier service life: 8 to 12 years inland, 6 to 10 years coastal. Slightly shorter than Scotsman premium (10 to 13 years inland) due to cost-optimized components. Cleaning compliance is the limiting factor: properly maintained machines reach 12 to 15 years even at this tier.
My Ice-O-Matic uses R-290. What's that?
R-290 is propane, the hydrocarbon refrigerant Ice-O-Matic transitioned to post-2020 for environmental compliance. Different service procedures than R-134a or R-404A: smaller charges, specific leak detection, separate recovery procedure. Requires R-290 certification beyond standard EPA 608 Universal (#1346255700410). We have it.
